LIKE STONES
Through imagination and artistic creation, it may be possible to rediscover a connection with the essence of humanity, that of our ancient ancestors who lived through that long, remote period, still partly shrouded in mystery, which is Prehistory.
Thinking of human rights as the foundations of distant forms of coexistence and sociality between men and women who have created works of art of immense value, can help us recover their deepest meaning.
Universal and inalienable rights of every human being, founding stones of any civilization, which in our contemporary world, with unexpected acceleration, risk being trampled underfoot by the violent logic of the domination of the strongest over the weakest until their total annihilation.
The vertical forms of the installation, which reach the top of the ancient courtyard wall of the Town Hall, ideally represent the thirty articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10 1948.
They are anchored to the ground by stones of different shapes and colors, flint, jasper, travertine and various types of limestone, the lithic materials used by humans in prehistoric times. The stones, from which the vertical forms seem to originate and develop, become an integral part of the work, symbolically bridging the temporal distance that separates us from the dawn of human history.
